About the Event
Elizabethans loved their gardens and celebrated them through cultivation, painting, poetry, jewelry, clothing, and needlework. We will explore their gardens through an in-depth examination of extant embroidery, as well as portraits, recipes, illustrations, and herbals, focusing on the spicy "pink" (aka the carnation) along with it's close cousin, the cornflower.
Lectures will be interspersed with instructions on stitching a recreation of carnation from a 17th century embroidered book binding.
Kits are sold separately on our Etsy site so workshop participants can choose to stitch along or simply enjoy the lecture and instruction.
